Emoji Media Guest Post

Who
knew it was so easy to be completely honest with yourself? It’s almost
impossible not to spill the beans on what you really think if you take these
personality tests online – and that’s the point. Sometimes learning about
yourself is the most challenging task of all. Telling others is easy. But
knowing yourself well enough to be honest with yourself is much thicker. Hopefully,
these personality tests will enlighten you and help you spark an interest in
discovering your inner self.

Are You an Introvert or an Extrovert Quiz
is a great personality test?

This
is a great and simple personality test for introverts and extroverts. The more
you know about your own characteristics, the easier you can accept them as a
part of who you are. Telling an extrovert, they are an introvert is like saying
the sky is red. An introvert will almost always say, “No, I’m not.”
But that doesn’t mean that’s not how you identify. It’s all about learning what
type of person you are and how you can adapt your lifestyle to it. Who knows,
you might find out at Quiz Pin
that you’re an extrovert, and all these years, you thought you were an
introvert.

The Greek Gods Personality Quiz says a
lot about how you view yourself

Which
Greek God do you see yourself as? You will find out whether you are more like
Hercules or Apollo. Who knows, you might even think of yourself as a mix of a
few of them. It doesn’t really matter what you think in terms of character
because who you are is all that matters. But it’s still fun to answer these
little quizzes that give you insight into who you are and why. Why is it that
some people always seem to know themselves well? And why do others struggle
with their own character? It all boils down to how you see yourself, and this
is one of those personality tests that speak volumes about your inner self.

Test your mental maturity with the How
Old Am I Quiz

No
doubt you probably know your actual age, but how old do you feel? And what
about emotionally? This is a great little test that really gives you a sense of
just how old you are – at least emotionally. Going through some of these
questions can really make you stop and think about yourself. Especially if
you’ve been going through a lot of emotional growth in the past few years. You
might be surprised at how young you feel and how you still see yourself as a
child. It’s all about perspective and how you view your age.

Discover your real zodiac sign with Which
Zodiac Sign Am I

You
may not be the person who your zodiac sign says you are. So, with that in mind,
what is your real inner zodiac sign? You’ll find out which sign you really
belong to with this quick quiz with some interesting questions. Which zodiac
signs are associated with your personality traits? You will find out by taking
a few questions and seeing how they line up with your answers.

So, now we have same-sex couple emojis, opposite couples emojis… is it enough? Far from it! Tinder’s Interracial Emoji Couple Project released a video last February, calling to broaden Emoji representations …

So, now we have same-sex couple emojis, opposite couples emojis… is it enough? Far from it!

Tinder’s Interracial Emoji Couple Project released a video last February, calling to broaden Emoji representations of couples. The video features a series of scenes of same and opposite sex interracial couples enjoying time together, followed Emojis representing mixed race couples statement:

There’s an emoji for everything. Well almost everything. Isn’t it time emoji represented all love?

Tinder’s emoji proposal is co-authored by Jennifer 8. Lee, creator of the Dumpling Emoji Project, and Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit. Lee and Ohanian worked together to pilot the hijab emoji in 2016, and are continuing their work with the Interracial Emoji Couple Project. Their request? Three emoji skin tone options for each person in the emoji.

From the birth of Emoji, people have called for more representation–emoji with different skin colors, same sex emoji couples, and families with same sex parents, to name a few. This past February, Apple submitted an official proposal to the Unicode Consortium for emojis representing people with disabilities.

Considering interracial marriage has been legal for over fifty years (or even if it wasn’t), um yeah, it’s time. As of 2017, one in six people in the United States will marry a partner of a different race, which doesn’t include unmarried couples.

“It’s like that Cheerios commercial,” said Abigail Gonzales, who married her husband Enrique in 2012 . “It’s the face of the modern developed world. Everybody wants to be represented in visual culture, and Emojis are a new language that people use to express emotion.”

Emoji Foundation founder Niki Selken agrees. “It would mean a lot to have an interracial Emoji personally, as I am one-half of an interracial couple.”

Could interracial family emojis be next? We hope so!

To support the movement, you can sign the petition, share the video, or share the word, using #representlove.

Its the first annual Emoji conference. Emojicon was a magical, exhausting, hilarious mess of fun. I arrived and set up the VR booth after one whole week of NONSTOP coding on my game. I was delighted to meet some of my Emoji contemporaries like Jeremy Burge of Emojipedia and Fred Beneson of Emoji Dick. My favorite part of showing work was watching children and adults react to seeing VR with Emoji.

I really enjoyed the talk by Paul Galloway of the MOMA about the first Emoji set and the museum acquisition of the set. I also gave a talk of my own: Confessions of an Emoji Artist. I covered topics around Emoji art as well as how it affects our emotional centers.

For the Emoji Art Gallery I presented the Emoji Dictionary and EmojiFlower VR experience for Google Cardboard on behalf of WTF . Learn more about the development process for EmojiFlower VR here.

It’s a historic moment of recognition for little images that have been gaining popularity since 1999

Oxford Dictionaries made history on Monday by announcing that their “Word of the Year” would not be one of those old-fashioned, string-of-letters-type words at all. The flag their editors are planting to sum up who we were in 2015 is this pictograph, an acknowledgement of just how popular these pictures have become in our (digital) daily lives:

“Although emoji have been a staple of texting teens for some time, emoji culture exploded into the global mainstream over the past year,” the company’s team wrote in a press release. “Emoji have come to embody a core aspect of living in a digital world that is visually driven, emotionally expressive, and obsessively immediate.”

Oxford University Press—which publishes both the august Oxford English Dictionary and the lower-brow, more-modern Oxford Dictionaries Online—partnered with keyboard-app company SwiftKey to determine which emoji was getting the most play this past year. According to their data, the “Face With Tears of Joy” emoji, also known as LOL Emoji or Laughing Emoji, comprised nearly 20% of all emoji use in the U.S. and the U.K., where Oxford is based. The runner-up in the U.S., with 9% of usage, was this number:

Comment: Dear Emoji people,
First off, I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for inventing, what I think is, the greatest contribution to modern communication. The Emoji.
However….
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE DINOSAUR EMOJI!?
YOU’VE HAD LIKE 16 GOD DAMN UPDATES ADDING NEW SHIT THAT NO ONE EVER USES, BUT STILL NO DINOS???
COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO LIVES AND BREATES THE JURRASIC PERIOD, THE DINOSAUR EMOJI IS THE ONE THING THAT LEAVES AN EMPTY VOID IN MY SOUL WHEN IT COMES TO EXPRESSING MYSELF VIA TEXT BASED COMMUNICATION.
JUST TAKE A STEP BACK AND THINK OF ALL THE AMAZING APPLICATIONS IT WOULD HAVE!
I MEAN, YOU EVEN CREATED A MIDDLE FUCKING FINGER! THE DINOSAUR IS MUCH MORE FAMILY FRIENDLY BECAUSE THEY DONT EVEN HAVE FINGERS TO GIVE VULGAR GESTURES WITH!
YOURE ALL A BUNCH OF BRONTO-SNORUS’S. GET WITH THE TIMES, PEOPLE! THIS ISNT THE TRIASSIC PERIOD!
WHAT IF I OPENED A CLOTHING STORE CALLED “TRY SARA’S TOPS” — HAHA ITS CLEVER AND WITTY AND FUN, BUT FUCK ME I CANT EVEN PROPERLY EMOTE MYSELF ON SOCIAL MEDIA BECAUSE THERE IS NO FUCKING TRICERATOPS.
I MEAN SERIOUSLY… YOU HAVE AN EMOJI OF A PILE OF SMILING SHIT!
AND ALSO, THREE, YES FUCKING THREE, EMOJIS FOR A PIG!
WHAT IS THIS? JURRASIC PORK?
DO THE WORLD A FAVOR, GIVE US SOME LITTLE T-REXY’S AND MAYBE SOME BABY RAPTORS, OR SOMETHING.
DINOSAURS ARE FUCKING HOT RIGHT NOW AND THIS DINO-SHIP IS ABOUT SET SAIL WITHOUT YOUR ASS UNLESS YOU GET THE FUCK ON BOARD.
GOOD DAY.

The Unicode Foundation announced today that they will be addressing the lack of diversity in the current Emoji set. Their solution involves five new skin tone shade based on the Fitzpatrick scale.

5 symbol modifier characters that provide for a range of skin tones for human emoji. These characters are based on the six tones of the Fitzpatrick scale, a recognized standard for dermatology (there are many examples of this scale online, such as FitzpatrickSkinType.pdf).

The World Translation Foundation feels that this step toward making Emoji more diverse is long overdue. We are excited to see the new more colorful Emoji debut in mid 2015 on chat logs everywhere!
